To be effective one must focus on the objective of the lesson. Keeping that purpose in mind will lead to a successful learning experience for students. 

Utilizing students' varying backgrounds allows them to see themselves in the lesson and creates a safe environment for students to learn from one another. 

The goal should be to ensure that every student has the resources that they need in order to ensure that learning occurs.
